Darien Police Welcome New Officer
The Darien Police Department has welcomed a new member to its ranks. Matthew Ackerman has been hired by the Darien Police Department after serving seven years with the Stratford Police Department, where he was a member of the dive team, helicopter team, and certified as an EMT. Darien Police Sgt. James Palmeri said that Ackerman currently has an associate’s degree from Housatonic Community College and is currently enrolled at UConn, where he is continuing his education. Darien Police Chief Calls It A Career After Nearly 40 Years In Law Enforcement
After a nearly 40-year career, Darien Police Chief Ray Osborne has officially announced his retirement. Osborne notified the Darien Police Commission and First Selectman Jayme Stevenson earlier this week that he will be retiring on September 1. Osborne’s career began in 1983 after working with the Easton Police Department in 1981. In December of 1996, he was appointed to the Detective Division. College Professor In Fairfield County Fired For Giving Nazi Salute
A Fairfield County community college professor is out of a job after allegedly shouting in German and giving a Nazi salute for several minutes during a faculty and administrators’ meeting. Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport announced on Thursday that Charles Meyrick has been fired following the incident on November 2 at Manchester Community College. He had been put on leave by the school in November. Housatonic Community College Professor Placed On Leave For Giving Nazi Salute
A college professor who gave the Nazi salute during a meeting of state college and university officials has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to a report by the Hartford Courant. Charles Meyrick, an assistant professor of business and economics at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, shouted and became agitated before eventually holding up his arm in a Nazi salute for five to 10 minutes, several faculty members in attendance at the meeting on Friday, Nov. 2 told the Courant. Details have been released regarding the crash that killed a 22-year-old man early Saturday morning in the Town of Fairfield.
