I just delivered a deer tick to the New Canaan Health Department yesterday. The tick came from my yard. Since my arrival in New Canaan my son developed Lyme Disease from a tick in my yard (tick was fully engorged and tested positive but his blood test was negative). This is my 3rd tick experience --- one positive result and one negative for me. Even our family pet became lame with Lyme Disease at 8 months and again a year later. The ticks are on our property courtesy of the deer that come by. View Comment
We are the ONLY state where Weight Watchers is allowed to charge sales tax on meetings and their products. This has been going on for years. Why???? View Comment
Drop the thermostat from 72 to 66 during the day. Use programmable thermostats so that the temperature is 61 or so when the building is not used. It's amazing how our school budgets grow every year as do their salaries. View Comment
Yes, Marilyn, I agree.
Hey New Canaan Library Board of Trustees, how about offering the position to Cynde Lahey (remember her?) who, after working tirelessly for the patrons of NCL for over 30 years suddenly "disappeared". View Comment
admo,
My thoughts exactly!
This article reports that the woman has dementia, lives in Ohio and was traveling to Darien to visit family. WHY WAS SHE DRIVING IN THE FIRST PLACE? View Comment
Whenever we have a power or cable outage, I must walk to Kiwanis Park in order to get cell phone reception. If there is an outage in the middle of the night, I have to get dressed and walk away from my home in order to report the outage. This is a dangerous procedure to do when there are high winds, torrential rain, debris blowing around and it is pitch dark outside (as was the case with Hurricane Sandy).
I lost power at 10 p.m. I had to leave my home to call NC OEM and CL+P while trying to avoid debris blowing around.
The cable company and CL+P ask for a cell phone number whenever I report an outage. I tell them not to bother calling me because I don't get service in my home in New Canaan. If multiple families do not report outages within an hour, CL+P deletes the report of an outage from that caller from their records. This has happened to me because there are just a few families on my grid (including Kiwanis Park).
On one occasion I had a "life threatening illness" and was taken away from my home by ambulance. Thank God the call was made when I had phone/utility service. View Comment
Thank you New Canaan Daily Voice Staff for your valuable information about the hurricane. To all of you without power, I hope that it will be restored soon! View Comment
The Town should definitely get Jeb's overpayment returned as soon as possible. It's the only ethical and correct thing to do. Moving ahead, a full investigation needs to be done as to why and how Jeb received, almost $600 more per month than he was entitled to, in the first place. We cannot look the other way once the excess money is recalculated and returned. View Comment
Melvin,
Thank you for this wonderful article. Short, sweet and to the point. The picture certainly clears up any misconception over who can vote and how the voters will be separated by party affiliation. Registered Democrats will be handed a ballot with Bysiewicz-Murphy's names on it while registered Republicans will be handed ballots containing the names of Shays and McMahaon. View Comment
Actually both registered Democrats and Republicans head to the polls on Tuesday, August 14. Registered Democrats will be handed a ballot with Christopher Murphy and Susan Bysiewicz's names on it while the ballot for registered Republicans will contain only the names of Christopher Shays and Linda McMahon. Please correct your last paragraph accordingly. Unaffiliated voters must establish their parties (Republican or Democrat) by noon on Monday, August 13 to be eligible to vote in the following day's (Tuesday, August 14) primary for U.S. Senate. This is the third "car vs. train" accident in Stamford since this summer. When will Metro North install a crossing gate at these dangerous intersections? The crossing gates should be mandatory to prevent further incidents. View Comment
