Over the past 2 weeks (excluding the date of the Harlem Explosion), the New Canaan - Stamford branch was late by over 25 minutes. No announcements, no alerts.
What happens is that the train physically leaves the Stamford station (ergo, it left on time) and the passengers sit on the train between stations "due to congestion". When you call Metro North's Customer Service Department, they are not aware of any delay. So I wonder how accurate their "on-time" numbers are.

The top race in New Canaan is the battle for selectman between Republican Nick Williams and Democrat Beth Jones.
This statement is misleading. Although voters may select one candidate for Selectman, the Board of Selectman is comprised of 3 persons: the First Selectman Rob Mallozzi and BOTH Beth Jones and Nick Williams. Both Jones and Willaims are running uncontested and both will be reelected. View Comment
In the past Metro-North has claimed that the monthly commuter tickets are already discounted and they will not reimburse their customers. This happened during Superstorm Sandy when there was no service on our line for almost 2 weeks....and it won't happen this time. View Comment
We have the BEST bow hunter on our New Canaan property. Last season he took down 4 deer in 7 days.
He's very professional, polite, e-mails and lets us know when he will stop by. We think of him as family. View Comment
We removed our child (at age 7) from an area school after repeated bullying incidents. With a letter from our family pediatrician in hand and reports given to our local police department, we withdrew our child from a public school and joined an area home school group. Since then, our child has received various local and state awards including a college scholarship. Bullying is not an "accident". View Comment
It's so sad that our children's schools must have this kind of drill done in order to keep them safe. When I went to school, doors were kept open and the only drill we did was a fire drill. What is happening to our world? View Comment
I just delivered a deer tick to the New Canaan Health Department yesterday. The tick came from my yard. Since my arrival in New Canaan my son developed Lyme Disease from a tick in my yard (tick was fully engorged and tested positive but his blood test was negative). This is my 3rd tick experience --- one positive result and one negative for me. Even our family pet became lame with Lyme Disease at 8 months and again a year later. The ticks are on our property courtesy of the deer that come by. View Comment
Drop the thermostat from 72 to 66 during the day. Use programmable thermostats so that the temperature is 61 or so when the building is not used. It's amazing how our school budgets grow every year as do their salaries. View Comment
Yes, Marilyn, I agree.
Hey New Canaan Library Board of Trustees, how about offering the position to Cynde Lahey (remember her?) who, after working tirelessly for the patrons of NCL for over 30 years suddenly "disappeared". View Comment
Whenever we have a power or cable outage, I must walk to Kiwanis Park in order to get cell phone reception. If there is an outage in the middle of the night, I have to get dressed and walk away from my home in order to report the outage. This is a dangerous procedure to do when there are high winds, torrential rain, debris blowing around and it is pitch dark outside (as was the case with Hurricane Sandy).
I lost power at 10 p.m. I had to leave my home to call NC OEM and CL+P while trying to avoid debris blowing around.
The cable company and CL+P ask for a cell phone number whenever I report an outage. I tell them not to bother calling me because I don't get service in my home in New Canaan. If multiple families do not report outages within an hour, CL+P deletes the report of an outage from that caller from their records. This has happened to me because there are just a few families on my grid (including Kiwanis Park).
On one occasion I had a "life threatening illness" and was taken away from my home by ambulance. Thank God the call was made when I had phone/utility service. View Comment
