An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Fairfield County by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, especially for sensitive groups, and increase the likelihood of respiratory symptoms and breathing discomfort in active children and adults with respiratory diseases such as asthma, DEEP warned. The alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition, tree pollen levels in Fairfield County are expected to be high on Thursday, according to AccuWeather. Grass pollen, ragweed pollen and mold levels are expected to be low.

Record or near record temperatures are possible on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, especially inland where highs are expected to reach into the 90s in many locations.
