FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- As part of the company’s water conservation efforts Aquarion Water Co. announced that it will be offering for sale recycled rain barrels to its Connecticut customers.

Just one 60-gallon recycled food-grade barrel can consistently irrigate a 100-square-foot garden, Aquarion Water said.

Rain barrels are an efficient and effective way to store rainwater for later use by collecting rain and runoff from a roof or downspout. They provide a free, ready source of water for filling watering cans, connecting a garden hose, feeding a drip irrigation system and other outdoor chores.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to conserve water and save money through the use of rain barrels,” said Charles V. Firlotte, Aquarion president and CEO. “Using rain barrels can also help to mitigate pollution in Connecticut’s water supplies by limiting storm water runoff.”

“Rain barrels can help to greatly reduce water consumption during the warmer summer months,” said Firlotte.
