Third Tornado Strike In Connecticut Confirmed By Weather Service

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A third tornado hit upstate Connecticut on Monday in addition to the ones that hit Stamford/Greenwich and Windsor Locks/East Windsor, the National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday.

A weak tornado hit near Enfield at 1:45 p.m. It had a maximum wind speed of 65 mph. Its path was 50 yards wide and 0.75 miles long, the weather service said. The brief tornado that hit Enfield in north-central Connecticut was from the same storm that affected the Windsor Locks/East Windsor area earlier that day.

Scattered tree damage began on Glen Arden Lane, the crossed Hazard Avenue, continued to Heron Road and ended at Taylor Road.

No fatalities or injuries were reported in any of the tornadoes.

The tornado that hit the backcountry Greenwich/North Stamford area between 10:58 and 11:08 a.m. Monday had a maximum wind speed of 80 mph. Its path was 150 feet wide and 3.7 miles long. Read more about it here .

Gov. Dannel Malloy on Tuesday signed a Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency to assist the state and its municipalities with debris removal from the storms.
