The Winter Weather Advisory had been issued until 6 p.m. Tuesday across Fairfield County, the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey. It has been canceled in those areas but still remains in effect for the rest of Connecticut until 6 p.m.
Snow began to fall at about daybreak, with pockets of light to moderate snow tracking across Fairfield County during rush hour and throughout the morning, the National Weather Service said.
The snow began to slow and turn to rain by mid-day, leaving slippery and wet conditions across Fairfield County.
Temperatures will be in the low 30s through the afternoon, with a mix of snow and rain continuing to fall.
It will get warmer later this week, which may allow some of the snowpack to begin melting.
The forecast for Wednesday includes a chance of daytime rain with a high in the 40s. Thursday will be partly sunny and and a high in the 40s. Rain arrives Thursday night and continues at times Friday with a spring-like temperatures in the 50s.
