RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Woodcock Nature Center of Ridgefield and Wilton is sponsoring two talks on Friday, April 5, in Newtown by Audubon Medal winner Richard Louv, bestselling author of "Last Child in the Woods" and "The Nature Principle."

“As the father of a 7- and 9-year-old in Newtown and the head of a nature center whose mission is to get children and families outside, I was concerned at the potential reactionary effects that the Dec.14 tragedy could have in our area," said nature center director Henryk Teraszkiewicz. "Children are already experiencing a disconnect from nature, something Louv has termed Nature Deficit Disorder, but now they need that outdoor exposure more than ever.”

In response, Louv has created a talk addressing the healing power of nature, “Peace and the Natural World: The Restorative Power of Nature Where We Live, Work, Learn and Play.”

The first talk will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Newtown Meeting House at 31 Main St., by the flagpole. The second talk will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Fraser Woods School, 173 S. Main St.

Admission is free, but participants are asked to RSVP by emailing the center at woodcocknaturecenter@yahoo.com . For more information, visit the nature center's website .
