The ratings have a different look this year since the publication took a new approach to splitting up the towns. In years past, towns were split up by population, however, this year median home sale price was used instead. Wilton was part of a 37-town division that boasted a median home sale price of more than $300,000.

In addition to median home sale price, Connecticut Magazine weighed crime rates, graduation rates, the equalized mill rate, PIC rating, the number of restaurants that made the publications "Best Restaurants" list and voter turnout when determining the ranking.

Wilton excelled in the education and community engagement categories, receiving third and fourth place rankings, respectively. The town's weakest area came in the culture and leisure category, where it placed 16th.

Overall, Fairfield County dominated the rankings. Ridgefield, Darien and New Canaan took the top three spots while Greenwich, Weston and Westport were ranked fifth through seventh, respectively.

Easton ranked 12th and Fairfield placed 17th and Redding was tied for 21st.

Stamford was ranked the top city in the state, followed by Norwalk at No. 2 and Danbury at No. 3.
