Monroe Man Named To Post On Governor's Prevention Partnership

MONROE, Conn. -- Carlos Reinoso Jr. of Monroe will take a leadership role in the expansion of youth mentoring and prevention strategies across the state in his new post as program manager of Prevention Services and Partnerships for the Governor's Prevention Partnership.

In this role, Reinoso will provide broad support across the organization, as well as manage the partnership’s relationship with the Hartford Public Schools and launch a Latino youth and family prevention initiative in Hartford, according to a statement from the Governor's Prevention Partnership.

“Carlos has a real passion for prevention and has always enjoyed working with the most challenging, underserved communities at risk,” said Jill Spineti, the partnership’s president and chief executive officer. “His knowledge of cultural competency, along with his prevention and outreach experience, has shown to effectively reach those communities and individuals most in need.”

He will assist in the creation of a mentoring hub in Waterbury, support current and upcoming legislative advocacy, and help strengthen school partnerships in Connecticut’s alliance districts, the release said. 

Reinoso has a wealth of experience as a former Regional Action Council director and more recently as a director of the Dr. Robert E. Appleby School-Based Health Centers in Norwalk.

He has been in the field of human services and education since 1998 and has extensive knowledge of prevention, education, community engagement and advocacy.

His experience encompasses working with the Connecticut Juvenile Justice System, Public Health System, Community Health System, Connecticut public school system, substance abuse and mental health.

Reinoso has served as a national and statewide trainer for providers on the topic of prevention and culturally competency, as well as legislative advocacy efforts.

He has master's degree in management and organizational leadership, a bachelor of science in a dual major of psychology and human services, with additional certifications and training in behavioral healthcare,gerontology and mental health first aid.

Reinoso is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese.

Created in 1989, the Governor’s Prevention Partnership equips, empowers and connects organizations, communities and families to prevent substance abuse, underage drinking and violence among youth and to promote positive outcomes for all young people in Connecticut.

Co-chaired by Gov. Dannel Malloy and a local business leader, the organization supports more than 150 mentoring programs statewide and works to promote and expand mentoring opportunities for youth.
