A 2002 graduate of Wilton High School, where he played football and lacrosse, Wood was killed in 2008 by a drunk driver in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 24.
Wood was a well-known animal lover and was passionate about building homes for people in need. Thats why Timmer Jam will raise funds for PAWS, a Norwalk-based nonprofit that rescues and finds homes for homeless animals, and Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit that builds decent, affordable homes for people in need around the world.
Years ago we lost a great son, brother, and friend in Timmer Wood. We have long discussed ways to honor his memory in an appropriate way, doing something he loved and benefiting causes important to him, Woods family says on the Timmers Way website. Thankfully, Ian and Jackson Fuse were able to push us in the right direction with the first annual Timmer's Way concert event.
Timmer Jam starts at 6 p.m. at Seaside Tavern, 891 Cove Road, Stamford. A $20 donation is suggested at the door and will include a drink ticket. The event will also include raffle prizes and a silent auction.
[Wood] was a big supporter of us as the band started, Jackson Fuse says on Timmers Way. So as we part ways around the country, we thought we could go out in a way that supports some of the things he loved.
Wood was described in his obituary as a fearless and tireless worker, a physically powerful young man with an emerging reputation for initiative and leadership.
He loved music, going fishing with his dad, skiing and boating.
Woods family hopes to make Timmer Jam an annual event.
Anyone who cant attend the concert, but would like to support the causes, can make donations to PAWS and Habitat for Humanity via the Timmers Way website.
