What's On Your Mind, Wilton?

WILTON, Conn. – A lovely downtown, American and world leadership and the return of football were some of the things on the minds of people in Wilton when we spoke with them on Thursday.

Steven Georgeou of Wilton was wondering about whether things will get better domestically and internationally. “Do we have the right people in place to solve the problems of the country and the world?” Georgeou said. “Just look at the shape the world is in.”

His daughter Lauren, 9, said she hopes something can be done to help the environment and to save endangered animals. “We have lots of great animals that our children may not see,” Lauren said. The youngster counts dogs, wolves and cheetahs as her favorite animals.

Claude Kern, 44, of Danbury, was ready to have some pizza, which he bought from Wilton Pizza, as he watched his beloved New England Patriots play against the New Orleans Saints in an NFL preseason game. “We’ve got some good players this year,” said Kern, wearing his Rodney Harrison No. 37 Pats jersey. His children, who live in Wilton, love star quarterback Tom Brady, but Kern is excited to see guys such as tight end Rob Gronkowski and running back Danny Woodhead for the first time since last year’s Super Bowl defeat to the New York Giants.

Guy Cabral, 73, of Richmond, Va., said he was having fun and enjoying time while visiting family, including his granddaughter Julia Dilullo, 6. “I just try to enjoy life every day,” said Cabral, who even wore Julia’s star shaped sunglasses to bring a smile to her face. “The most important thing to think about is if your family is OK. Everything else doesn’t really matter.”

Jane Minion recently moved to Wilton from New York City and was admiring Wilton Center after talking with a friend. “What a lovely town this is,” she said. “It is absolutely fabulous. I don’t want to say too much because then everyone will come here.”
