The sale, which kicks off Saturday morning and runs through next Tuesday, will feature a variety of new and gently used books, in more than 50 categories, including children’s books, mysteries, gardening, travel, history, art books, science fiction and more. Rare and collectible books will also be on sale, as well as CDs, DVDs and books on tape.

“This is such a fun and robust time of year for the library,” said Pat Gould, a co-chairman of the book sale. “We have hundreds of volunteers throughout the year combing through the generous book donations provided by the community, making sure that they are ready for the sale. Once the book sale signs go up in early spring, we get another huge influx of items that we pour over so we’re busier than Santa’s elves on Christmas Eve, trying to get everything organized, in place and ready to roll.”

The book sale, one of the largest in the area, is a major fundraiser for the library each year. All sale proceeds benefit the library’s community programming and services.

In addition to the sale, there will be a silent auction of rare and collectible books Saturday and Sunday. Some finds include a first edition of “A Yankee in King Arthur’s Court,” published in 1889; “The Sixties” by well-known portrait photographer Richard Avedon; and “The Signal Corps in the War of the Rebellion,” published in 1896.

The sale opens Saturday at 9 a.m. However, shoppers looking to beat the crowds can shop the sale from 7 to 9 a.m. for a $15 entrance fee. The Rotary Club of Wilton will provide hot dogs and soda at lunchtime Saturday afternoon.

The sale continues Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Monday, all items will be half-price and on Tuesday, shoppers will pay only $5 per bag.
