A Wilton couple suffered injuries after a shotgun went off during an incident on the morning of Nov. 27 at their home. Charles Garcia, 47, suffered life-threatening injuries after the firearm was shot during a struggle with his wife, Michelle, 39. Police said the struggle took place in an upstairs bedroom.

Garcia was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He had been in critical condition for several days after the incident, but was last reported in fair condition. Michelle Garcia sustained non-life threatening facial injuries.

Police are still investigating the case and have not revealed what prompted the struggle over the weapon.

The Garcias have rented the Grumman Avenue home for about two years. Neighbors and landlord Gary Lorentson said they never heard of the couple having any problems.
