Work On Gas Pipeline Continues Along Route 7 In Wilton

WILTON, Conn. -- Work on the new Yankee Gas pipeline will continue with construction in Merwin Meadows expected to be completed this week, First Selectman Bill Brennan said.

Pipe for the 3.5-mile gas pipeline in Wilton is stacked in a staging area. Work began in August and is expected to be completed by the end of November.

A crew from GPL will begin installing pipeline along Route 7 adjacent to Wilton High School. The crew will be working from Catalpa Road heading northward.

A second crew from GPL will continue to install pipe on River Road, working south toward Wolfpit Road.

A crew from Henkels and McCoy will continue with the installation of pipeline on Wolfpit Road, focusing on the Norwalk River bridge crossing.

Residents and motorists can expect to see crews working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

"Please consider alternate routes, if possible, to avoid inconvenience and delays," Brennan said. "Obey police officers or flagmen overseeing traffic control."

Work is expected to be completed by the end of November on the 3.5-mile section of Yankee Gas' natural gas line.

Installation has already been completed in the Wilton Center business area and the school areas, including on Kristine Lilly Way, Brennan said.

The gas pipeline is expected to offer the town an energy alternative that will save $450,000 to $500,000 per year on fuel costs, Brennan said. The natural gas will also offer potential savings to many community businesses, residences and other facilities along the pipeline route, he said.

Wiltonsoccermom praised the work in a comment at the Daily Voice.

"I walk on School Road every afternoon. I have found this crew from GPL to be very hardworking and courteous," Wiltonsoccermom said. "Everyday I see how motivated they are to do a good job for our town. The immediate attention to the landscaping is an added bonus. On Kristine Lilly Way you can not even tell where they have dug. I wish all companies took this much pride in their work."
