WILTON, Conn. — Sister Catherine Jemapete, of Wilton, died on Sept. 26 at Lourdes Health Care Center. She was 89.
Jemapete was born on April 28, 1926, in Bridgeport to Spyridion Jemapete and Theresa Gabor.
She joined the School Sister of Notre Dame in 1950, and taught at Catholic schools in Rochester, N.Y., Charleston, S.C., Norwalk and Darien until 1970.
From there, Jemapete ran Religious Education programs in Ridgefield, Wilton, Waterbury, and Fairfield until retiring in 2001.
She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her brother John of Pinellas Park, Fla.; nephew Christopher of Aurora, Colo.; and family members and friends.
Calling hours will be at the Villa Notre Dame Chapel, located at 345 Belden Hill Road in Wilton, on Sept. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Bridgeport.
