The right lane of I-691 has reopened following a crash that left one person with serious injuries.

Connecticut State Police said the incident took place around 8:57 a.m. Tuesday, southbound near Exit 5 in the town of Meriden.

The crash occurred when the driver, identified as Alexander Tenore, of Waterbury, lost control, hit a wire guardrail and ended up 60-feet down an embankment, state police said.

The Meriden Fire Department arrived and extricated Tenore from the vehicle.

Tenore was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with serious injuries, troopers said.

The right lane was closed for more than four hours as investigators worked and DOT officials repaired the guardrail, state police said.

Danby's Auto was contacted for retrieval of the vehicle.

The crash is under investigation.
