Police: Greenwich Man Held On $1 Million Bond On Attempted Murder Charges

GREENWICH, Conn. -- A 55-year-old Greenwich man was held on $1 million bond after bludgeoning his wife with a baseball bat on Tuesday at about 6:15 p.m., according to a police statement.

Michael F. DeMaio was charged with criminal attempted murder and first-degree assault of his wife, nutritionist Diane DeMaio, police said.

The couple had a dispute in their home at 261 Round Hill Road, which escalated to the point where Demaio assaulted his wife, according to the police statement.

She was in critical condition at Stamford Hospital on Wednesday morning, police said.

DeMaio was arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on Wednesday morning.

According to a Greenwich Time report, DeMaio apparently confessed the crime to Greenwich Police officers, saying he "lost it."
