Milositz announced his retirement Wednesday, according to a statement from First Selectman Bill Brennan.
“In his tenure with the town, [Milositz] has capably guided the fire department, both in terms of its traditional firefighting role but also in its ever-growing emergency management function,” Brennan said in the statement. “His superb leadership skills helped the town navigate through many challenges, but, in particular, through the trials and tribulations presented by the various severe storms of the last several years.”
Milositz has served in his current position since January 2003 and has been a firefighter for the past 37 years. He is moving out-of-state with his family to pursue new opportunities outside the fire service, the statement said.
“Chief Milositz’s knowledge, judgment, and sense of humor — all central to the successful execution of his professional responsibilities as fire chief — will be greatly missed,” Brennan said. “On a positive note, he leaves a highly professional, well-trained group of career firefighters the town residents can depend upon to provide excellent emergency services on a daily basis.”
With Milositz’s retirement less than two months away, the Wilton Fire Commission will soon meet to begin planning for the recruitment of a new chief. The Fire Commission, by town ordinance, has the exclusive power to appoint the officers and members of the Wilton Fire Department.
