Wilton First Responders Can Now Go Off-Road

WILTON, Conn. -- Wilton's Community Emergency Response Team and other local first responders now have a new tool -- a Polaris utility task vehicle, or UTV.

Wilton CERT has a new utility task vehicle, for less traditional operations.

"This morning at Wilton FD headquarters, the town's various emergency services departments took delivery of a brand new Polaris UTV," the team noted in a Facebook post.

"The UTV will be a shared resource between the Wilton Police Department, Wilton Firefighters -- Local 2233, Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Wilton CERT. Wilton CERT will be the custodian of the vehicle."

The UTV was fully funded through donations, and it will be used both for special events and for rescues in situations where traditional emergency vehicles would have difficulty, like along the Norwalk River Valley Trail.

"Thanks so much to the community for their generous support," the team noted.

The vehicle will gain various emergency equipment, as more funds are available.
