Shortly before 9 p.m. on Oct. 6, a uniformed officer approached Hoffstatter in the Ridgefield Playhouse parking lot after he saw Hoffstatter “lighting an object in his mouth," the police report said.
It was later determined Hoffstatter was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the report said. He was given a ticket for $286, which needed to be paid by Oct. 22, and released at the scene, the report said.
"I paid the ticket and I apologize for the indiscretion,” Hoffstatter, a Democrat, said in a brief statement Tuesday.
Wilton First Selectman Bill Brennan could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Hoffstatter is a Wilton native who has served on the Board of Selectmen for three terms. Last year, he challenged state Rep. Gail Lavielle for the 143rd District seat in the Assembly.
