Women Facing Wilton Charges In Tag Swapping Scheme

WILTON, Conn. – Two women accused of swapping tags to get inflated refunds from a Wilton clothing store are facing charges from Wilton Police.

Idy Stern, 41, of Trumbull and Wendy Savin, 59, of Bridgeport, were each charged Friday with two counts of sixth-degree larceny and two counts of conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, both misdemeanors.

Police said the women were arrested as a result of an investigation into an organized retail theft scheme. Police said Stern and Savin employed a scheme at the Wilton TJ Maxx store Feb. 15 and Feb. 28, in which they returned lower-priced items purchased at other TJX stores with higher-priced sale tags in order to get refunds of money or credit on credit cards or store charge cards. Police said the scheme had been going on since 2009 in several TJX stores in different towns. The Wilton TJ Maxx store sustained losses of more than $240.

Stern and Savin were each released on $10,000 bond and are scheduled to appear Monday in Norwalk Superior Court.
