Minimum Wage To Rise To $9 An Hour In Connecticut By 2015

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Legislation to increase the minimum wage in Fairfield County and all of Connecticut to $9 an hour has passed the House and Senate, and Gov. Dannel Malloy promised early Thursday to sign it into law.

“This change will make it just a little easier for working people in our state without adversely impacting the business community,” Malloy said. “This is the right thing to do for hard working men and women, and the right thing to do for families. I look forward to signing this bill into law.”

The legislation, Senate Bill 387 – An Act Increasing the Minimum Fair Wage, increases the minimum wage by 75 cents per hour over a two-year period to a total of $9 per hour.

The bill passed the state Senate passed the bill last week, and the House passed it Wednesday night.

Minimum wage will increase 45 cents per hour to $8.70 per hour in January 2014 and 30 cents an hour in January 2015 to $9 an hour. Connecticut's rate is currently $1 more an hour than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

An employee working full time at the minimum wage of $8.25 per hour earns $17,160 per year. That will increase to $18,720 at the $9 per hour rate.
