Wilfredo Reyes, 33, was charged Feb. 2 with violating an order of protection that had been granted by the county’s Family Court to the unidentified Mahopac woman, Smith said.

The woman told police that Reyes and she had been involved in a physical altercation the day before, the sheriff said. He did not describe the incident in detail or say what kind of injuries the woman may have suffered.

Reyes was sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in Carmel on the misdemeanor charge, Smith said.

If found guilty, Reyes could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, the sheriff said.
