Kyle P. Luciano was ejected in the multiple-car collision and had to be hospitalized, according to New Jersey State Police.

I-195 was closed in both directions for several hours as a result of the crash.

Troopers responded to the crash at 4:30 p.m. on I-195 west near milepost 28.8 in Howell Township, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a Honda driven by Luciano and a Toyota were traveling west on I-195. A Dodge pickup truck was traveling east on I-195.

The Toyota and Honda were involved in a side-swipe collision. As a result of the crash the Toyota struck the left guardrail, the Honda ran off the road to the left, crossed the center grass median, and entered into the path of the Dodge traveling east, police said. The front of the Dodge struck the side of the Honda.

The crash remains under investigation.
