WILTON, Conn. After winning a state championship and $2,500 for Wilton High School, five students were awarded a regional trophy and put on a mock challenge against their teachers in front of an audience at the school.
The teens competed in the Connecticut division of MSG Varsity's regional quiz show, The Challenge and came out victorious. The team is now competing for the grand prize of $10,000 for the school.
It's not just about being smart, you have to be very self-directed, said Terry Ragazzini, coach of the academic team at Wilton High School.
When the trophy was awarded, the team headed to the Little Theater to go head-to-head against five teachers in a five-round simulation.
At the end of the game, the students won by more than 100 points. Teachers finished with 315 points, and The Challenge team racked up more than 460 points.
The contestants, including captain Simon Brewer, Will Jankowski, Mohsin Jawed, Molly Hoch and Jack Jankowski, were quizzed on classic literature, war on terror dates and more during the mock game.
The final of The Challenge aired Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity, Cablevision Channel 14. The Daily Voice will update on the results as they become available.
