Wilton Baseball Slugs Its Way To District 1 Final

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s Little League team has not wasted any time in seizing the lead in its previous District 1 tournament games. Tuesday’s 10-run burst in the first inning was its best yet.

Wilton hit five home runs, including two by Dillon Lifrieri, to whack Ridgefield National, 20-3, in the semifinals at Scalzi Park in Stamford. Wilton plays National Lione of Stamford in Friday’s championship game at Springdale Little League field in Stamford. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Wilton sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, and the first eight reached base. Lifrieri set the tone with a three-run home run to right field. Collin Kahal followed with a solo homer.

“You couldn’t ask for a better start,’’ Wilton manager Kevin Black said. “It’s like a recording that just keeps repeating itself.”

Lifrieri added a solo home run in the fourth, when the game ended via the mercy rule. In Little League, games are stopped when a team gets ahead by 10 or more runs after four innings. Wilton has beaten all six district playoff opponents by 10 or more runs.

Jack Dooley crushed a two-run home run in the third, and Matt Lamotta provided the closing statement with a three-run blast in the fourth.

Lifrieri was also magnificent on the mound, with seven strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. He allowed one unearned run, walked one and allowed one hit.

Wilton had 20 hits for the game, with nearly every player in the lineup collecting at least one.
