Wilton Boys Basketball Team Enters January With Perfect Mark

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton High School’s boys basketball team enters the New Year with an undefeated record, four blowout wins and high hopes that it can contend for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title.

The Warriors (4-0) closed out December by winning the Wilton Holiday Classic. The Warriors routed Staples, 83-66, in the title game. Wilton has won its four games by an average of nearly 29 points.

Wilton is led by senior guard Matt Shifrin, who is averaging 23.3 points per game. He scored 30 against Staples, including six 3-pointers. Shifrin also leads the team in assists and steals.

Senior Lucas Savoie is Wilton’s top interior player, with an average of 7.5 points and 7.3 points per game. He scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over Greenwich in December.

Norwalk High, Danbury High and Westhill High also enter January undefeated in the FCIAC.

The Warriors return to the court on Tuesday with a home against Brien McMahon High. They also visit Trumbull on Friday.

Wilton is ranked third in the state in the latest state rankings by MaxPreps. Weaver of Hartford is ranked No. 1, followed by Career Magnet of New Haven. The complete rankings are online.
