The Darien location is about three times bigger than the Fairfield one, according to Luis Chavez, who co-owns the restaurant with Mario Fontana and Michael Young. The three restaurateurs also own the Fairfield location, as well as Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk. The large el horno oven also sets the Darien restaurant apart, the owners said.
“A lot of great paella dishes come out of there,” said Chavez. Special dishes include a lobster risotto verde and a paella rojo with Mexican chorizo, roasted chicken and roasted tomato sofrito.
As the name of the restaurant suggests, the menu also features a range of tacos.
“All of the tacos are awesome,” general manager Charlie Ronemus said. “We have some of the best guacamole you’ve ever had, made to order.”
Bodega serves handcrafted cocktails and features more than 80 types of tequila. Since the restaurant opened last week, many families have come in to dine in the early evening hours and the bar scene is active later in the night, Ronemus said.
When the weather is warmer, the restaurant will open its front and back patios for outdoor seating. The front windows to the store also open.
“That feature brings the inside out and the outside in,” Chavez said. “In the spring and summertime, it’s going to be fantastic.”
Bodega Taco Bar is located at 980 Post Road. It is open from 5 p.m. to midnight Mondays through Wednesdays, to 1 a.m. Thursdays and to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
