Led by Figarova, a composer/pianist born and raised in Azerbaijan, the ensemble has won critical and audience acclaim in Chicago, Detroit, Paris, Amsterdam and New York. The sextet, which includes Figarova’s husband, flutist Bart Platteau, has also headlined at the Newport Jazz Festival and has been repeatedly invited to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, according to a statement.

“This is a band that built its reputation playing original repertoire, each musician a powerful soloist in his or her own right; yet it is their signature interplay that moves the Amina Figarova Sextet above and beyond the vast majority of large chamber ensembles in modern jazz and places the pianist among the top echelon of composer/bandleaders,” said Andrea Canter, writer for JazzPolice.com.

The ensemble will perform in the library’s Brubeck room from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. An informal reception will follow the concert.

Admission is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. Advanced registration is strongly recommended and can be completed online or by calling 203-762-3950, Ext. 213. Preregistered concert-goers should arrive at the library by 7:20 p.m. to be guaranteed seating. Wait-listed participants and walk-ins will be accommodated after 7:20 p.m., if space is available.

“Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room” concerts are funded by the William and Karen Tell Foundation, with thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer and Chris and Tish Brubeck. The Wilton Library is located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road.
