This production is returning to the Met stage for the first time in 100 years. Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her hand. Her suitors are tenor Matthew Polenzani and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, who sing the well-known lilting duet “Au fond du temple saint."

Director Penny Woolcock explores "the timeless themes of pure love, betrayal and vengeance in a production that vividly creates an undersea world on the stage of the Met." Conductor Gianandrea Noseda brings his romantic flair to the lush score from the composer of "Carmen."

The Live in HD series is underwritten by Jeanne Cook, Anita and Nicholas Donofrio, Liz and Steven Goldstone, and Sabina and Walter Slavin, with support from the Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery. The media sponsor is WSHU 91.1.

The playhouse is a nonprofit whose mission is to present a variety of performing arts to the community, at a varied price point.

The performance will begin at 6 p.m. The Ridgefield Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge Road, in Ridgefield.

Tickets are $25 -- $20 for members and seniors, $15 for students and free for those under 18. Buy tickets here, call 203-438-5795 or visit the box office.
