Music on the Hill celebrates St. Patrick's Day with "Luck o' the Irish," a concert of Irish music performed by the Festival Chorus and Jubilate Ringers handbell choir, with Artistic Directors David H. Connell and Ellen Dickinson conducting on Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. in Parish Hall at the Wilton Episcopal and Presbyterian Church complex.
Parish Hall is at 48 New Canaan Road.
The Jubilate Ringers will perform Dr. Connell's exuberant"Give Us a Dance Then," a suite of Irish dances arranged for handbells, which the group premiered last March.
The Festival Chorus will sing songs of love and longing ("Carrickfergus" and "'Tis the Last Rose of Summer" as arranged for the King's Singers); a lively "Kerry Dance;" and a wordless "Londonderry Air" arranged by Percy Grainger. Other selections include choral settings of the poetry of W.B. Yeats.
Tickets are $20 in advance at www.musiconthehillCT.org; $25 at the door. There is free admission for children and students.
Handbell ringers inspired by the Irish concert are invited to join Music on the Hill for a Spring Ring on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wilton Episcopal and Presbyterian Church. The session is a chance to read through new music hot off the presses.
The professional-level Chamber Chorus will perform ”Shakespeare at the Library,” at the Pequot Library in Southport on Friday, May 1. Join Music on the Hill for the May Day concert of a group known for its impeccable performance of an author whose words have rung through the centuries.
