While swirling inks and dipping paper into the solution, they will also learn about the history of marbling, which has been practiced for many thousands of years.

The practice appears to have begun in East Asia and it later developed in what is now Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and India.

Putting their freshly-marbled paper to good use, kids can make a book cover, either for a book they bring, such as a journal, or for a book provided by the Society. The event will also feature an appropriate snack -- marble cake.

The cost is $10 per child for Wilton Historical Society members, with a maximum of $25 per family, and $15 per child for non-members, with a maximum of $35 per family.

Register by emailing info@wiltonhistorical.org or calling 203-762-7257.

The workshop will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The historical society is at 224 Danbury Road, in Wilton.
