Residents are asked to leave bags of nonperishable groceries at their mailboxes Saturday morning.

Donations may also be delivered to Norwalk and Wilton post offices.

Letter carriers recently delivered bags with suggested shopping lists to Norwalk and Wilton residences.

“We have 14,000 shopping bags and lists for postal customers in Norwalk and 7,200 for Wilton,” Callie Jayne, Norwalk site manager for P2P, said in a press release.

About 150 ninth-graders from Wilton High School will sort donations the day of the food drive. The South Norwalk Community Center will act as a headquarters for the weekend.

On Monday, May 11, a total of 200 Pepperidge Farm employees will volunteer their time sorting and transporting the donations to P2P.

“More than 9 percent of people in Norwalk are living in poverty, but there’s also poverty in Weston (2.7 percent), Westport (3.7 percent) and Wilton (2.5 percent),” Jayne said. “Hunger and food insecurity is an issue that many in our communities are dealing with.”

“At P2P we think that no one in Fairfield County should have to be hungry, and donations to this food drive will help to ensure that people in our community won’t be.”
