The gala will run from 6 to 10 p.m. and include cocktails, dancing, food, live music, disc jockeys along with pingpong and other games. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes from such science fiction favorites as "Super Heroes," "Star Trek," "Game of Thrones" and others.

The center has lowered the ticket price to $40, although revelers are encouraged to pay the original $75 to help further support the two charities that will benefit from the proceeds: the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center and Future 5 of Stamford.

Sponsors include Priceline.com of Norwalk and the Connecticut Technology Council.

The Geeks and Nerds Summer Gala will take place at the innovation center's 175 Atlantic St. headquarters.  Tickets are on sale online.

“We’re so proud of the talented and driven people who make up the local tech and start-up community, “ said SIC Chief Marketing Officer Peter Propp. “They are the people helping to disrupt industries and plant the seeds for our future economy. We wanted to give them an opportunity to celebrate, along with their dates and friends. Priceline.com’s sponsorship allows us to produce meaningful donations for our charities and spread the word that the work done within these walls is making a difference.”

SIC sponsors and hosts events throughout the year and has become an integral part of the startup scene, bringing together companies big and small in a collegial environment in the former Old Town Hall. It offers classes and draws nascent start-ups into the co-working environment.

Future 5 is a Stamford-based company founded in 2009 to help connect area high school students to mentors, community, coaches, jobs, colleges and others interested in helping young people reach their potential.

The CT Veterans Legal Center helps veterans recovering from mental illness and homelessness to receive legal advice and overcome barriers to housing, income and healthcare. It is the first legal resource group in the nation staffed and housed within a Veterans Administration mental-health facility.
