Ben Taylor to 'Taste' Ridgefield Playhouse Culture

If playing music for a different crowd each night can be described as a "marathon frenzy of cultural tasting,” Ben Taylor said he is excited to see how the town of Ridgefield tastes.

“When you’re a touring musician and hit a new city every night and leave afterward, you might only get to see the inside of the venue, but there’s this concentration of connection that happens between you and the audience when you perform,” he said.

“You really get a feeling for the place.”

Singer and songwriter Taylor, who also is the son of renowned musicians James Taylor and Carly Simon, will be performing July 8 at the Ridgefield Playhouse. The show will kick off the first leg of his summer tour and is set to unveil a sneak peak of the new tracks off his latest album, "Listening," which is slated to be released Aug. 14.

"Listening," which serves as a follow-up to albums "The Legend Of Kung Folk - Part 1 (the Killing Bite)" and "Another Run in the Sun," is his first in four years. He said audiences at Ridgefield Playhouse shouldn't expect to hear his songs exactly as they sounds on the record, though.

“The songs continue to write themselves a long time after you record them, and I’m really looking forward to playing them for as many people as possible.”

What audiences might expect to hear is flawless acoustic guitar playing, heartfelt lyrics and maybe even a soulful rendition of a song written by one of Taylor’s favorite artists. If he's taking requests, a live performance of his famed interpretation of Macy Gray’s “I Try” will be a sure crowd-pleaser.

Taylor has performed on Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, The CBS Morning Show and Last Call with Carson Daly.
