Catherine Brubeck Yaghsizian of Wallingford, Brubeck’s daughter, accepted the Hall of Fame award on her late father’s behalf from state Sen. Len Fasano (R-Wallingford.)
“It is an honor to recognize a man who was a leading figure in jazz, a groundbreaking composer and pianist who became the best known ambassador of jazz to the world,” Fasano said in a news release.
“Catherine has much to be proud of and we thank her for sharing her father’s legendary career with Connecticut.”
Brubeck, who died in 2012 at age 91, performed at the Newport Jazz Festival more than any other musician; he also played a key role in the 1950s in establishing the future popularity of local jazz festivals.
State Sen. Toni Boucher (R-Wilton), a former neighbor of Brubeck’s, also participated in the 2014 Connecticut Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
“Dave Brubeck remained a humble, warm, easygoing man whose ready smile and sense of humor put everyone at ease,” Boucher said in a press release. “His love of his wife, Iola - his family, his church and Wilton was keenly felt by all that knew him.”
