Lisa Strmecki, the school’s music director, led the student bell choir in performing “Let There Be Peace,” to open the ceremony.

A bell was rung for each of the eight Sept. 11 victims from the school and parish, followed by moving speeches from Norman and Reitman. The victims with local ties are Edward Fergus, Peter Fry, John Henwood, John Iskyan, Farrell Lynch, Sean Lynch, Edward York and Tyler Ugolyn.

Ugolyn graduated from Our Lady of Fatima School. The school’s annual basketball tournament has been named after him. Students placed flowers and stones near the flagpole that has been dedicated to him.
