"With millions of people expected to be without power following Hurricane Irma’s devastating landfall," Eversource said, "approximately 100 of our employees are packing up and heading down the East Coast to assist fellow energy companies in the power restoration efforts. We’re wishing our crews safe travels!"

A convoy of 30 lineworkers and support personnel, equipment and trucks, including the company Mobile Command Center, began their trip to Florida on Saturday morning.

Using the industry's Mutual Aid Network, many energy companies in the path of Hurricane Irma have reached out to other utilities from across the nation for extra workers and resources.

Eversource is teaming with Florida Power and Light, that state’s biggest utility company. "Millions of people are expected to lose power for a significant period of time after Irma makes landfall," Eversrouce said.

Work crews will put in 16-hour days, and will be in Florida for two weeks — or more, Eversource said.
