At the annual Town Meeting on Tuesday, May 2, the question of the Fiscal Year 2018 budget will be addressed. Residents will then get to decide on the budget, as well as seven additional questions, at an adjourned vote on Saturday, May 2. The seven additional questions include the discontinuance of a town road known as Old 2 Rod Highway, a change in the ordinance for the sale of alcohol at restaurants, and five bonding proposals.
Among the bonding proposals is funding to address overcrowding, infrastructure and compliance issues at police headquarters. The town is requesting funding to perform engineering analyses of the headquarters and other Town Hall campus buildings in order to develop a conceptual plan and cost estimate for a proposed expansion of the police headquarters. These plans would be presented at next year's May 2018 annual Town Meeting for a discussion and a vote.
In an effort to provide voters with more information about the questions, Police Chief John Lynch will hold two open houses at police headquarters. These open houses will be held Tuesday, April 25 and Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lynch and other members of the department will be on hand to answer questions and provide tours of the building.
Immediately following the open houses, First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice invites the public for special lunches in Room B of Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Vanderslice and members of town staff will explain the ballot items and answer questions about the proposed budget or any other town matter.

There will be an additional opportunity to ask questions at the annual Town Meeting, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 2 at the Clune Center.
