Wilton Man Tried To Bribe Town Official, Police Say

WILTON, Conn. -- A Wilton man tried to bribe the town's Director of Environmental Affairs to remove a bond on his home, according to Wilton Police, who charged him with bribery.

Ioannis Papakosmas is charged with offering a $1,000 bribe to a Town of Wilton official.

Ioannis Papakosmas, 42, of 103 Twin Oak Lane,  was arrested on Feb. 28 and released after posting a $1,000 bond. His next scheduled court date is on Friday. 

Police said the town's Inland Wetland Commission is holding a corrective action wetland permit on Papakosmas' property. He offered the bribe to the director to remove the bond, police said, while the director was on the property that day. The director declined and immediately informed police about the incident.
