Rabinowitz called Gov. Dannel Malloy to take herself out of the running to become the state's next commissioner of education, the Post said.
"My heart is here," the Post quoted her saying at the meeting Monday.
"I have two kids who currently attend Bridgeport public schools, and I couldn't be happier to have Fran Rabinowitz remain as the Superintendent of Schools in the state's largest city," Mayor Bill Finch said in a statement.
"She's committed to helping our city achieve universal pre-k for kids, ensuring our kids are learning in the right environment through new school construction, and that kids are learning important life lessons outside of the classroom through high-quality after-school programs.
"All of these measures are helping to make sure that our kids are prepared to one day compete for 21st-century jobs. Fran Rabinowitz is helping Bridgeport get better every day. We're glad she's staying."
Rabinowitz, who was a finalist for the job, had not sought the top state job but was asked by the governor's office to apply, the Post said.
