RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Successful Study Skills 4 Students (S4) workshops will be held at The Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield in July and August.

The workshops foster academic achievement by teaching students key study strategies that help them learn and achieve better academic success.

The first workshop will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 21 to July 25. The second workshop will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 to Aug. 14. Both workshops will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield, 41 Governor St.

Ridgefield mom Sue Pratt first heard about a specialized “summer study skills workshop” at a PTA meeting when the oldest of her three children—now a Ridgefield High School student—was in Scotts Ridge Middle School.

Pratt put the workshop—from Southport-based Successful Study Skills 4 Students —in her back pocket, and then enrolled her daughter for the summer before entering the high school.

“I have to say, for her, if I could have enrolled her earlier, it would have been better for her,” Pratt said. “She figured a lot out on her own, but I decided based on the feedback I got from her that, ‘OK, when Ryan comes up to the next level, we’ll do it.’ ”

Last summer, Pratt registered her second child, Ryan, a rising sixth-grader, from Ridgefield Elementary to Scotts Ridge. Pratt said he learned valuable skills he wouldn’t have gained otherwise.

“Learning how to take notes, for example, was an invaluable skill,” continued Pratt. “Knowing how to look at a PowerPoint, watch a video, listen to a teacher, and record the major points and essential details are very crucial skills which my son learned in the S4 program. These skills become increasingly essential as students move up from grade-to-grade.”

S4 President Michelle Sagalyn said the Southport-based company is excited to offer its workshop in Ridgefield again. “Whether students are facing a transition into middle school, or just looking to improve their overall academic experience, we offer tools that can help them succeed,” she said.

The 7.5 hour 3-session workshop is $395, with a 10% sibling discount offered. To register for the July 21 to 25 workshop: To register for the August workshop: visit
