Wilton 8th Grade Girls Team Reaches League Title Game

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton 8th grade girls basketball team defeated Newtown and Stamford to advance to the championship game of the Fairfield County Basketball League tournament for the fourth straight year.

Wilton lost to the Devon Knights of MIlford, 49-44, as Bridgette Wall, Kaitlin Reif, Adia Burrows and Olivia Dexter played well.

In a 37-32 win over Newtown, Hannah Belanger, and Alex and Caty Greer helped to control the boards while Sophia Strazza dished out multiple assists and hit key free throws. Sydney Cummings and Burrows controlled the paint on both ends, and Wall hit a key three-pointer to help seal the win.

In the semifinals, Wilton edged Stamford, 43-40, as Maddie Burke and Caroline Coffey controlled the glass. Cummings and Burrows along with Strazza led the offense. Belanger played well defensively.

Wilton will meet Norwalk in Sunday's title game at 5:20 p.m. at Middlesex Middle School in Darien. Wilton is 14-13 overall. Norwalk is 28-0 and beat Wilton, 42-12, in a game on Dec. 21.
